Extra Credit- Government Spending- 20pts


I. Read “A Citizen’s Guide to the Federal Budget.”

A. Look at chart 2-2 and read The Constitution of the United States, Article 1, Section 8.

B. Compare the national budget items to what the Constitution says.  Do the budget items (chart 2-2) seem like they fit with the definition of “Defense and general Welfare?” Explain your answer the best you can.
C. Explain Chart 2-3. What are the largest sources of government income? What is the fastest growing category of Federal revenues?
D. Read Chart 1-1.  Approximately what percentage of GDP are the Federal Government Revenues in the United States?  (Look at figure 2-5) Compare the United States to France.  Why do you think the United States is the lowest?  What does this chart mean in terms of taxes? What country pays more taxes? Should the U.S. be more like that country?  Why or why not?
E. What does all of the above mean to you as a current or future taxpayer?
II. Answer all the above questions with complete sentences, typed, at least 1 page in length.
